CAMPAIGNERS concerned about issues in education will launch a new organisation tonight.
The Oxfordshire branch of the Socialist Educational Association will hold its first event at Oxford Town Hall, starting at 7.30pm.
A leading speaker in education, Michael Fielding, will discuss 'radical education and the common school' during the event.
Organisers hope to attract those keen to find answers to the crisis facing education, and members already include teachers, lecturers and academic researchers, governors and parents.
The SEA is a national educational organisation affiliated to the Labour Party, and promotes a comprehensive, life-long, non-selective education which reduces inequalities and promotes achievement by all.
The acting branch secretary, Peter Cann, said: "Whether you are a teacher, lecturer, or a concerned parent, this meeting will begin to provide answers to academisation of schools, the cuts in higher and further education, or indeed life-long learning.
"The meeting is open to all, not just Labour members."
The meeting takes place at the St Aldate's Room and anyone keen to find out more can call 07904557798 or email pete.cann@hotmail.co.uk.
