YOUNG people from across Oxfordshire have joined thousands of scouts in the US for the organisation's annual get together.

The 36 scouts from the county flew out on Saturday to take part in the World Scout Jamboree.

They are part of 5,000 scouts from across the UK, and 40,000 from nearly every country in the world, who will take part in two weeks of activities.

The UK scouts first stopped in New York for 24 hours to see the city before travelling to the jamboree site in West Virginia.

Katie Blundell, aged 16 from Oxford, said: "I am so much looking forward to meeting scouts from across the world, especially Thailand.

"I want to learn about new cultures and try new activities, especially white water rafting."

Unit leader Becky Stanworth added “This is going to be such a fantastic life changing opportunity for all these young people."
