A NEW depot has been opened in Didcot by the UK’s largest powered access rental company.

Nationwide Platforms opened the operational facility at Hawksworth Industrial Estate on August 7.

The company says the site, which was previously home to Volvo Truck & Bus Centre, is 'strategically placed to serve the company’s growing number of customers across Oxfordshire and along the A34'.

With capacity to hold stock of more than 400 Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWP), the new centre will also serve as a training facility for a range of working at height training courses.

Regional Director Nick Parham said: “Our new depot is ideally-placed to enhance our service offering to our customers. We’re continually growing as a business and this new addition to our depot portfolio is a direct result of the continuous expansion we’re seeing as a company.”

The company now has 35 depots across the UK.

Managing Director Colin Hotchkiss added: “Great powered access hire service depends on being close to our customers and delivering the right equipment just when they need it.

"This latest depot improves our overall operational efficiency, helps reduce our carbon footprint with fewer transport movements and will support our aim of providing a seamless powered access hire service.”

The company say the facility would create 'new job opportunities in the local area', but did not give an exact number.
