FIREWORKS fans are in for a treat as Bournemouth Tourism reveals plans for an extra display this summer.

The skies above Bournemouth pier will light up on Friday September 6, bringing summer celebrations to a spectacular close.

Visitors to the town can also look forward to two fireworks displays during the Bournemouth Air Festival, which runs from August 29 until September 1.

The town’s Friday night fireworks have had to be cancelled for the past two weeks.

Yellow weather warnings for heavy rain and strong winds were issued on both occasions meaning the safety of the public could have been at risk.

At the time Bournemouth Tourism said: “Due to the exceptional high winds the decision by the contractor and the council is that it would be unsafe for the Bournemouth Friday Fireworks display to happen.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused, understandably, the public’s safety must be our top priority.”

Now they have decided to make up for the disappointment with the extra display. The news comes as traders in the town look forward to a bumper bank holiday weekend with glorious weather forecast for the whole of the three-day break.

Visitors will be welcomed by shop bosses, hoteliers, bars and restaurants who have suffered a drop in trade due to poor summer holiday weather conditions and the cancellation of the two fireworks displays.

Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to pour into the town.

The next scheduled fireworks display in Bournemouth is tomorrow (Friday August 23) at 10pm and the remainder will be on August 30 and 31 and September 6. All will start at 10pm.

Last month, several online listings websites provided inaccurate information stating fireworks would take place on July 26.
