A 34-YEAR-OLD man will be deported after immigration officers questioned his rights to work in the UK.

The Chinese man had been working at the Chinese restaurant Chen's Cottage in Banbury before a squad of immigration officers and neighbourhood police turned up unexpectedly and raided the shop.

It comes after a spree of raids at eastern-style takeaways and wholesalers in the county last week.

The man was arrested on Thursday for overstaying his visa and is now being detained pending his removal from the UK.

The shop will be fined £20,000 if they cannot prove they did the right checks.

In June officers also raided an Oxford shopping centre for illegal employees.Three men were deported and another another shop was fined £20,000.

No arrests were made at the Chinese wholesalers in Osney Mead.
