OXFORDSHIRE'S honey factory is set to give its drones extra space to land at the hive.

Rowse Honey in Wallingford has applied for planning permission to land outside its Moreton Avenue headquarters as an overflow car park.

In a submission to South Oxfordshire District Council the firm explained that the are was originally earmarked for industrial units, but it said 'poor local market conditions has meant the units have never been built'.

Rowse went on to say that its staff have already been using part of the land temporarily as a car park, but the firm now wants to expand the area being used and to have the original application for industrial units officially changed to that of a car park.

Rowse, which celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2014, currently sells about 20,000 tonnes of honey to the UK market alone each year.

Shoppers spend about £46m buying 50 million jars per annum.
