POLICE say a man in his 40s was seriously injured in a car crash near Oxford.

Yesterday the fire service released a dramatic image of the upside-down vehicle after it collided with trees in Garsington, and said firefighters had to cut a trapped man out.

This morning Thames Valley Police issued a witness appeal, with more details about what happened.

The force said a silver Kia Sportage crashed into a row of trees, at about 11.55pm on Friday, in front of a house in Lower Road, Garsington.

It added that the driver, a man aged in his 40s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

He remains there receiving treatment.

No one in the house was injured.

Senior investigating officer, PC Sarah Davies, of Abingdon Roads Policing Unit, said: "I am appealing for anyone who may have witnessed this incident to please come forward.

"I would also urge any motorists who were in the local area around the time of the collision to check any dash-cam footage in case it may have captured something that could assist with the investigation."
