ALLEGATIONS of racism towards a Didcot Town player are being investigated by Thames Valley Police.

Caelan Isaac tweeted his disgust at comments made to him on Saturday when Didcot Town Development played Risborough Rangers in their Uhlsport Hellenic League Division 1 East clash.

The 19-year-old said it was the third time he had been the victim of such abuse.

The incident is being looked at by the Berks & Bucks Football Association, with whom both teams are affiliated, and the Thames Valley force.

There have been a number of high-profile players subjected to racist abuse on social media including Manchester United’s Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford, and Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham. Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling has also been targeted during a game.

A spokeswoman said: “Thames Valley Police has received reports of alleged racially aggravated abuse following an incident on Saturday at an address is Horsenden Lane, Princes Risborough. No-one has been arrested at this time and the investigation is continuing.”

Isaac tweeted: “Today while playing away at Risborough I was racially abused by the fans. I’m 19 and this is the third time I’ve been a victim of racial abuse.”

Mr Isaac claimed he was racially abused by fans and called a series of offensive names.

He added: “I hope those responsible are dealt with appropriately.#KickItOut.”

Didcot Town chairman John Bailey, who was not at the game, said: “We will do everything we can as a club to support the player - he has gone to the police about it. I hope this won’t put him off his game - he knows he is backed by everyone at the club.”

Alastair Kay, the governance manager at the Berks & Bucks FA, said: “An alleged incident of discrimination towards a player has been reported to us and we will now investigate fully working alongside the FA as is standard procedure in discrimination cases.”

Ian Mason, chief executive of the Oxfordshire FA, added: “The FA has clear guidelines on procedures and punishments for allegations and incidents like this.”

A statement issued on the Risborough website said: “Risborough Rangers FC is aware of a report of discriminatory abuse towards an opposition player during yesterday’s fixture against Didcot Town Development Football Club. "The club has launched a full investigation into these allegations.”

Didcot Town said in a statement: “We can confirm that a complaint has been filed with our local FA, the Berks & Bucks FA and The Hellenic League. The Berks & Bucks FA has confirmed it will co-ordinate with The FA to launch an investigation into the case.

"The incident has also been reported to the police. Caelan has our full support.”
