DELIVEROO riders protested in Oxford city centre this afternoon over their wages and pay structure.

Around 50 workers for the food delivery company set up their bikes and motorbikes in Ship Street off Cornmarket.

Police arrived shortly afterwards to monitor the demonstration.

The protestors claim that Deliveroo has changed its rules so that all riders can now work at the same time, and that the company has added new riders in the Oxford area.

They say that this has reduced their ability to pay for their running costs such as insurance and fuel.

One rider who asked to remain anonymous claimed that the changes had left people earning an average of £3 an hour.

They added that Deliveroo 'put the fees as low as they can' which is 'just not fair'.

The protestors said that they would not take up any jobs with the courier today or tomorrow.

The protest was one of several taking place in cities including Bristol, Nottingham and Colchester.

Mokhitia Isak, 29, who works for the courier said: "Our wages are appalling, some of us are earning less than £5 an hour.

"We all have bills to pay and should at least be getting paid £25-30 an hour for the amount of work that we do."
