A NEW partnership is being launched to help combat homelessness and rough sleeping in Oxford.

The project is called Oxford Homeless Movement, a new scheme incorporating all the different homelessness agencies in the city.

About 40 organisations are involved including Homeless Oxfordshire, the city council and employment charity Aspire Oxford.

Oxford Mail:

Oxfordshire Community Foundation, which helps charities find sources of funding, has been co-ordinating the launch of the Oxford Homeless Movement website.

The website is already online and will be officially launched on Thursday, October 10 at Open House in Little Clarendon Street.

Open House is a space run by architects’ firm Transition by Design where people are encouraged to discuss homelessness issues.

Now the movement is encouraging people to get involved and volunteer to help the homeless.

From the day of the official launch people will be able to donate funds online.

Oxford Mail:

The website says: “Oxford Homeless Movement brings together everyone addressing homelessness in the city. We show you how and where to get involved.

“There are many homeless people in Oxford and dozens of organisations focusing on the problem.

“This diversity can be confusing for would-be volunteers and supporters. Oxford Homeless Movement provides the clarity.

“The issues are complex but volunteering is simple and our joint efforts can be life-changing.”

Project manager Yvonne Pinner said: “The new website will be very useful as a way of signposting people who want to help, or who need help. Once the website officially launches on October 10 there will be a way of donating funds. There is also a charter which people can sign up to.”

The rough sleeping problem in the city has got worse in recent years and a number of people have died.

Oxford Mail:

The city council is spending millions of pounds addressing the issue.
