TRAFFIC was held on the M40 in Oxfordshire this morning after a vehicle left the carriageway.

Oxfordshire County Council tweeted at 8.30am reporting that northbound traffic was delayed between Junction 6 for Watlington and Junction 7 for Thame, due to an 'incident.'

One driver, tweeting at the same time, said vehicles were stationary. 

Queues remained as of 8.45am, and were stretching back beyond the Oxfordshire border, but had eased by 9.15am. 

South Central Ambulance Service said it was contacted by Thames Valley Fire Control Room at 7.07am, reporting that a car had left the carriageway.

It was initially understood that the driver was trapped but an ambulance arrived on scene and found the driver outside of the vehicle.

A spokesman added: "He was checked over by the ambulance crew but didn’t require any treatment."
