FIREFIGHTERS have shamed a drivers whose 'inconsiderate' parking left them unable to pass in their fire engine.

One driver appeared to have abandoned a car on double-yellow lines in Wantage while another had parked over an area marked 'keep clear,' leaving a delivery driver to double-park next to another vehicle.

Wantage Fire Station shared a picture of the scene in Newbury Street on Facebook yesterday, writing: "Another day, another parking issue in Wantage.

"Our appliance was unable to proceed due to inconsiderate parking by cars.

"We were forced to wait until the delivery lorry was moved, which was not at fault.

"Please consider the size of emergency vehicles when parking."

Thankfully they were on their way back from a house fire, not responding to an emergency.

Earlier this week, the same team shared a photo of a car blocking the entrance to Wantage Fire Station, parked over bays clearly marked 'KEEP CLEAR FIRE STATION.'

A firefighter who commented on yesterday's post said: "This is, unfortunately, not a rare occurrence these days."

One Wantage resident, commenting via Facebook, said: "I have never been into town in the week or even at a weekend whereby I couldn’t find a space to park safely and legally somewhere.

"This is purely down to ignorant selfish residents who cannot be bothered to park in an actual parking place.

"It’s not a massive town centre so hardly a big deal to walk. It’s a sad day when in a bid to reduce your steps, you put lives at risk in all manner of ways."
