POLICE closed a rural Oxfordshire road yesterday following a crash which brought down electrical wires on to the road.

Hanney Road in Steventon was closed both ways last night between Abingdon Road and Steventon Road.

Police were at Steventon Road in Hanney (which leads to Hanney Road) when the Oxford Mail passed the scene just before 5.30pm, but readers report that the collision happened closer to 4pm.

Ambulances were also seen rushing towards the area.

A spokesman for South Central Ambulance Service said: "We received a 999 call at 4.14pm yesterday afternoon with the caller reporting that a car had left the carriageway on Hanney Road, Steventon, collided with (and brought down) a telegraph pole and ended up on its roof.

"The caller went on to report that the occupants of the car had got themselves out of the vehicle but that there were live wires across the road."

The spokesman added: "We sent a rapid response vehicle and three ambulances to the scene; our staff reported that there were two patients with serious, but not life-threatening injuries, and a third patient with minor injuries.

"After initial treatment at the scene, all were taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital."

The road was still coned off at 8.30pm but it is thought the closure was lifted at approximately 9pm.
