A DISGRUNTLED ratepayer stood on the end of Parks Road, Oxford in January 1964, as a misguided protest about the inefficiency of the Oxford City Highways Department in laying a relief sewer across University Parks.
During the night, somebody else moved it along the street to its new resting place against a street sign outside Wadham College.

The pipe was a section of a manhole which formed part of the new park's relief sewer.
A new firm of contractors took it away once the council heard about it being there.
Neither the department nor the city police had any complaints about the pip during the fortnight it was obstructing the road.
