A VILLAGE primary school has been taken over by the county's biggest network of academies.

Benson CE Primary School near Wallingford has become the latest Oxfordshire school to convert into an academy, meaning it will no longer be run by Oxfordshire County Council.

It has joined Oxford Diocesan Schools Trust, which runs 29 academies in the county.

An official conversion letter has been published on Ofsted's website.

A message from governors was shared in the school's latest newsletter, refreshing parents on the reasons.

Governors wrote: "We are excited about the new prospect of working with ODST who undoubtedly will add value to the school and the team with access to a range of resources, knowledge and administrative support.

"In practical terms, academy status will change some things behind the scenes.

"We feel these changes will enhance the running of the school but otherwise you and your children will see very little difference when we make this change; in particular, there will be no impact on the curriculum or admissions policy.

"We are all very much looking forward to being part of the ODST family."

The 200-pupil school holds a 'good' Ofsted rating from earlier this year.
