HEAVY rain in the coming days could cause flooding for some people across Oxfordshire.

The Met Office has issued a yellow rain warning for tomorrow, covering a large swathe of souther Britain, including Oxfordshire.

The yellow alert is the lowest alert the Met Office issues, but warns people to be wary of wet road conditions and the possibility of some flooding.

Oxfordshire County Council is urging residents to keep a very close eye on the weather forecast and on local river levels in coming days.

According to the council, current levels on the Thames are very high but stable with flood alerts in place.

Levels also remain high on a number of other water courses in the county.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for tomorrow.

Motorists are being advised to take extra care when driving along Oxfordshire roads that have been affected by flooding so as to avoid creating bow-waves that may affect properties or damage their own vehicles.

Pedestrians and cyclists are also advised that towpaths in some locations have been submerged by water.

Oxfordshire County Council’s Highways Group Manager Paul Wilson said: “We’re not in as difficult a position as some parts of the north of England but the constant rain throughout Autumn has led to the rivers being higher than we have seen them for quite some time.

"They are currently stable and slightly receding in places but forecast rain in coming days has the potential to reverse that situation.

“As such ourselves, the Environment Agency and other parts are closely watching the rivers and streams and also the weather forecast."
