A COFFEE-LOVING couple have opened a new coffee shop at the Debenhams store in Oxford.

Dan Goldsmith, 42, from Canvey Island, Essex, and Jane Wallace, 36, from Middlesbrough, recently moved from Great Ayton, North Yorkshire to open their new Adoro Caffe shop.

The pair have big ambitions and are aiming for what will hopefully be a UK first as they attempt to build a wood fire roaster for their beans in Staindrop, County Durham.

These wood fire roasted beans will then be used for their various stores and branches across the country, including their latest Oxford shop.

Speaking about the technique Mr Goldsmith said: “What we’re doing is completely new territory but we are equally excited for the challenge.

"There’s a huge element of risk and there will be errors and mistakes but it’s about us learning and developing.

“We’re putting a lot of love into it to create a product with real quality.”

The whole process is set to cost the couple ‘thousands’ and has been in the process for two years.

For the time being, coffee lovers can purchase various blends of beans in store or set up a subscription and receive a different blend every month.

Mr Goldsmith added: “We have our own coffee blend, it’s a high-end gourmet coffee which is highly caffeinated due to being a low roast.

“We know exactly what farms the beans are from and name them after the farmers there.”

The ethically and sustainably sourced coffee bean blends include the Ferrero from Brazil and Paccoro from Colombia.

The couple say they aim to be responsible retailers and help to provide a healthy income for families in the developing world.

Mr Goldsmith said: “When people buy the beans they can see what blend of coffee they’re drinking, where it was grown and even who grew it.”

Oxford Mail:

The site of their latest venture will see them replace the former Patisserie Valerie, which closed in January this year.

It was a chance meeting with the food and catering team at the Debenhams store in Middlesbrough which offered the pair the opportunity to open up in Oxford.

Mr Goldsmith said: “Patisserie Valerie had a loyal trade and those customers now want somewhere else to sit and drink their coffee. We’re trying to get them customers back, giving them somewhere to sit down and have a cup of coffee.

“Having a coffee should be a good experience.”

The company’s motto ‘Love at first sip’ mirrors the couple, who have been together now for four years.

Adoro Caffe has stores across the UK, and caters for events, festivals and weddings.

Its latest store in Oxford has created jobs for six people and is situated on the first floor of Debenhams and offers discounts to students, emergency services personnel and the armed forces.
