A PURTON shop which has been closed for more than three years is set to reopen following refurbishment work.
Co-op took over the building on Station Road after the Best-One convenience store shut in March 2016.
The retailer agreed to spend £1.3m to renovate the shop and it is due to open its doors to villagers on Friday, December 13.
The planned work saw the amount of floor space increased, the main entrance widened and more.
A spokesman for Purton Parish Council said: “The Co-op and Parish Council wish to thank you for working as a community during the refurbishment works.”
Villagers launched a petition last year, collecting 2,000 signatures in a bid to have the shop reopned.
Residents expressed their joy on the parish council's Facebook page.
Judith Wells said: “Really looking forward to the opening – can only be good for Purton.”
The parish council also warned of some disruption to road access yesterday during the delivery of two large refrigeration units.
