Northgate House, the former shopping block in Oxford's Cornmarket Street, has almost totally disappeared.

Its demolition, led by BAM Construction, would not have been possible without the introduction of some very large industrial cranes and diggers.

They were brought in last month to demolish the block for the £36m Jesus College scheme.

The construction team has now released video footage and new images of the demolition.

A new shopping block and student accommodation and facilities will now be built and the project is due for completion in 2021, the college's 450th anniversary.

BAM Construction's Alec Carr said: "Piling equipment has been successfully delivered and installed by 350-tonne crane.

"The hard demolition of the existing structure is nearing completion, with the temporary works to WH Smith party wall now fully active and providing support.

"The removal of demolition material is now under way.

"This means the existing basement is now exposed which will allow the piling operations to commence from the week beginning December 9.

"The tower crane base will be installed in the next few weeks leading up to Christmas in readiness for the delivery and install of the crane in January."

Panels recounting the college's history, including famous graduates, have been put up around the demolition site.
