YOUNG musicians were joined by a world-renowned violinist at Bicester Village last week who spoke about her musical journey to fame.

Nicola Benedetti performed on Thursday on her beloved Stradivarius violin with 30 young members of the Oxfordshire County Music Service.

The 32-year-old musician, who has played alongside the likes of Andrea Bocelli and Rod Stewart, shared personal stories from her own musical journey and her inspirational career.

Miss Benedetti gave the young people tips while they played to bring their own passion and energy to their individual performances.

Angela Turton, chief executive of Oxfordshire County Music Service said: “This was a once in a lifetime opportunity for our students and staff to be inspired by such a famous and inspirational player who puts so much back into music education.

“Nicola’s visit has impacted the students significantly and they left Bicester Village buzzing, stimulated and inspired and determined to make the most of their own development.”

Councillor and Chair of Oxfordshire County Council Les Sibley, was also in attendance as the violinists created music in the shopping outlet's offices.

During her afternoon, the award-winning musician continued to enthral guests and staff by giving a spontaneous performance alongside Bruern Abbey School Choir in Café Wolseley during a festive afternoon tea.

Anne-Marie Verdin-Mulot, Bicester Village marketing director, said: “We were thrilled that Nicola was able to make space in her busy concert schedule to join us. As well as being a classical virtuoso, she is a very generous and warm hearted person who believes passionately in giving back.

Over the last 12 months Miss Benedetti, who started playing the violin when she was five, has continued her role as a dedicated ambassador and leader in music education.

She has reached over 1,250 young people through workshops, masterclasses, partnership projects, and school visits, providing key moments of inspiration for young instrumentalists.

The acclaimed Scottish violinist was awarded the Queen’s Medal for Music in 2017 - the youngest ever recipient - and was awarded an MBE for her services to music and charity in 2013.

With her regular duo partner pianist Alexei Grynyuk, Miss Benedetti frequently performs recitals in the world’s leading concert halls and festivals with most recent highlights including Wigmore Hall, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Utrecht, Rome, Copenhagen and Dortmund.
