A TEENAGER who beat up a gas engineer in an unprovoked attack before swinging a metal pole at passers-by has been jailed.

Alshafeea Ezereg carried out what was described as a 'bizarre' episode near to his home at Pipkin Way, Oxford, on the afternoon of October 7.

The 19-year-old confronted a gas engineer who was at his street at about 4pm.

Oxford Crown Court heard yesterday how Ezereg began holding the phone out to the man and told him he had fixed his internet.

The man said that he didn't do internet repairs and eyewitnesses described Ezereg as looking 'really emotional' with tears in his eyes.

Moments later Ezereg attacked the man and punched him in the face knocking him to the ground, before repeatedly kicking him.

After the violence Ezereg then found a two-foot long metal pole which he was 'swinging around' and used to attack another man.

Leaving the scene witnesses described hearing a smash which was later revealed to be from a brick he had hurled at a fascia board.

After his arrest he admitted two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, one of affray and one of causing criminal damage.

He also admitted a separate incident in which he 'bit' a police officer's thigh at Abingdon Police Station on February 17.

In mitigation his defence barrister said he suffered from PTSD from trauma experienced in his native Sudan.

Judge Ian Pringle QC jailed him for 11 months.
