WEST Oxfordshire District Council is encouraging residents to recycle their Christmas trees.

Householders signed up for garden waste collections can put them out on their next scheduled garden collection from Tuesday, January 7. Trees should be cut up and placed inside their licensed garden bin.

However, if your garden waste bin is full, the tree can be cut up and left next to the full bin for collection. Trees larger than 3ft should be cut into manageable pieces.

Councillor Norman MacRae said: “Last January more than 9,500 tonnes of garden waste was recycled in West Oxfordshire – this included Christmas trees – so let’s see if we can increase that in 2020.”

The public can also take their trees to one of the following collection points on Saturday, January 11.

• Witney: Witan Way Car Park G, 9-11am

• Carterton: Black Bourton Road car park, 1.30-3.30pm

• Chipping Norton: New Street car park, 9-11am
