TOMORROW is the last chance for people in Oxford to submit their designs for purpose built coffee cup bins.

The coffee cup-shaped bins will soon be installed in Oxford but the city council want residents to help design how they look.

A competition called 'A Cup of Inspiration' that was set up by the council for people to submit their designs for the bins closes at midnight tomorrow.

It is looking for members of the public to submit a design which will inspire people to take positive action to address the climate emergency.

This could include a picture, poem, message or other visual inspiration.

Entries will be judged by officers and members from Oxford City Council and Oxford Direct Services.

They will use criteria such as inspiration, positivity, diversity and inclusion, visibility and logistics, to make their decision.

The winning entries will have their creations put on coffee cup recycling bins in the city centre as well as Summertown and Headington.

They will also be presented with a coffee cup with their design as a memento.

Once the judges have made their decision the winners will be contacted by phone or email and the winning designs will be announced in Spring on Oxford City Council’s website and social media.

Coffee cup recycling bins were first announced in October, with the aim of recycling 650,000 cups in a year.

Oxford City Council Cabinet member Nigel Chapman said the council hoped to recycle more plastic bottles, cans, glass and paper at new recycling stations in the city.

To enter the competition, you must submit your design by midnight tomorrow.
