AFTER the festive frenzy I’m looking for an escape and preferably one that doesn’t involve a long car journey.

Glasgow’s only five-star hotel, the Kimpton Blythswood Square, offers a range of spa deals for early birds, owls and everyone in between.

I’m booked in for the Afternoon of Indulgence, which includes afternoon tea, a revitalising 1hr massage and use of the hotel’s hugely popular thermal experience.

Glasgow Times:

The Blythswood has added a new cafe to the spa area and with the soft lighting and calm ambience I’m already feeling very relaxed.

I’ve opted for the pescatarian afternoon tea and enjoy a savoury and sweet treats, including smoked salmon on rye bread, scones with cream and jam and delicious bite-sized pastries and macarons. Teas and coffees are unlimited and diners can expect a five-star waiting service (mine included a joke).

Glasgow Times:

After the delicious food is fully digested I head to the thermal suite and the comfort of a loose fitting towelling robe. It’s worth a trip to the Blythswood for this alone and I spend the next hour floating blissfully between the intensely relaxing hydrotherapy pools.

The last stop in my afternoon of indulgence is a massage and I relax with some glossy magazines and a glass of water ahead of my 3pm appointment.

Glasgow Times:

The therapist begins with a foot massage and scrub before I’m treated to a muscle melting massage with a blended oil by Isle of Lewis brand Ishga.

Spa deals at the Blythswood start at £59 for a two-course dinner and use of the thermal suite. The Afternoon of Indulgence is priced £158. To book go to www.kimptonblythswoodsquare.com
