A THEFT victim is warning the public about thefts from a gym in Oxford.

Darren Elford had his wallet stolen from his locker at Nuffield Health in Woodstock Road last Thursday.

He said: “My locker was broken into and my wallet was stolen.

“I think it’s only right to let people know what happened there as the establishment itself have said it’s not their problem what you leave in lockers.

“I do not want others to go through this trauma.

“Apparently this has happened before - I heard a woman whose Rolex watch was stolen a couple of years ago.”

Mr Elford subsequently cancelled his bank cards, however one of his contactless cards had already been used to purchase a bus ticket and valuables from WHSmith.

The card was then attempted to be used to purchase train tickets but Mr Elford had cancelled his cards by this point.

Oxford Mail:

Mr Elford, who pays over £80 a month for his gym membership at Nuffield, said his wallet had approximately £150 in cash inside. His mobile phone and car key however were not taken.

A Nuffield Health spokesperson said: “We are aware of the allegations of a theft from our club and as soon as this was reported to our staff we logged the incident and conducted a search of the area. We will work closely with the police to support in their investigation.

“We always advise our members to avoid bringing expensive items to the gym where possible.”

Thames Valley Police confirmed a wallet had been stolen between 4.15pm and 4.40 pm and an investigation is ongoing.
