The Oxford teenager and photographer, Billy Brunsdon is making a stir in the photography scene with his colourful and vibrant pictures.

Each week we will be finding out more about our Camera Club members and this week it is all about Billy Brunsdon.

The 15-year-old lives in Oxford and photography is his primary hobby and, in the future, he would like to translate it into a career.

Mr Brunsdon said: “Personally photography allows me to see the world in a different perspective and allows me to capture the moments that many people would just ignore. I also love photography because it provides incredible experiences for me that I would not normally be able to experience.”

He first started photography in 2016 and he said at this time he was not experienced but already had photography goals.

He said: "From the start there has always been one photo I’ve aspired to take, throughout the winter months cycling home along the Marston ferry cycle track there are often a couple of deer sitting about in the fields adjacent to the cycle track, as well as these deer, in this field you can also see the tops of the famous Oxford spires punching the distance, it had always been my dream to capture this moment of the deer directly in line with the spires.

"Well this day came about on the 13th November 2019, on my way home from school I saw the opportunity and quickly went home to grab my camera, it all lined up perfectly, the bucket shot complete."

Mr Brunsdon has been inspired to start taking pictures by the Australian photographer and filmmaker, Hayden Pedersen.

He said: "His creative style and crazy ideas have inspired me to take some similar photos of my own."

Mr Brunsdon started out in photography armed with a Canon Eos 600D camera and his favourite lens was the canon 50mm fixed zoom which he loved for its depth of field.

However, he now has a new camera: "As of this Christmas just gone, I now own a Sony a7ii mirrorless camera, which is perfect for street photography and also my favourite photography, astrophotography. My aim for this year is to take a photo of the colourful centre of the milky way, perhaps this camera may allow me to do so."

He gave his advice for anyone starting out and said: "To broaden your horizons, try to experiment in all types of photography before deciding where to go, take photos of pretty much anything you feel might be photographic, and try and train your eye to be able to see the potential of a photograph before it’s even taken. This last skill really helps in getting more photographs that are ‘usable’ from a day’s shoot."

Mr Brunsdon said: "But when all is said and done, my number one aim with photography is to have fun and create new experiences for myself and others."
