A TOWN council has had to ask for planning permission to put tables and chairs around the market place to 'regenerate' the town.

Faringdon Town Council has applied for permission for the furniture from Vale of White Horse District Council, the planning authority.

In the submission, the town did not say exactly where it wanted to put the tables and chairs but said 'various' paved areas around the market place 'during opening hours'.

It also said access to the market place would not be affected and it said that 'pavements will retain access for disabled persons and emergency vehicles'.

All tables and chairs will be temporary and easily moved, the town council promised, and tables 'will not obstruct main thoroughfares and will only be placed in marked areas'.

Tables will be out when premises are operating only and stored away during closing times.
