PASSENGERS say they are “fed up” as rail replacement buses delay journeys today.

Engineering work is taking place between Haywards Heath and Preston Park and Lewes, closing all lines.

Gatwick Express trains are not running between Gatwick Airport and Brighton.

Thameslink trains are not operating between Three Bridges and Brighton, and no trains are serving stations between Three Bridges and Brighton and Lewes via Haywards Heath.

Instead, a bus service is running between Three Bridges and Brighton and Lewes.

Network Rail said journey times would be considerably extended and queues are expected.

Direct trains are still running between London Victoria and Worthing, Hove and Brighton via Littlehampton.

At Brighton station, travellers were exasperated.

Brightonian Christina Grant, pictured above, was on her way to a lunch party in London.

She said: “I’ve heard the buses are very frequent, but I don’t know how long I’ll be waiting.

“I suppose I’ll just have to miss a bit of the food. I don’t want to be late for my friend.

“I might not have come had I known there was a bus replacement.

“I’d have stayed in bed.”

Charlotte Fisher, 18, was on her way to a convention for the Netflix series Stranger Things this morning.

She had planned to travel to Hassocks and on to London Bridge.

From a seat on the back of a rail replacement bus, she said: “I’m so tired. I just don’t expect this is going to work.

“It’s very inconvenient.”

A group of friends on their way to London said they had been “mildly inconvenienced”, but still said they were “fed up” and “annoyed” their trip was being delayed.
