A FOOTBALL fan who was allegedly racist at an Oxford United football match has been let go on bail until his trial later this year.

Callum Boyfield was supporting Peterborough at the League One match against the winning U's on August 10.

The 18-year-old from Lincolnshire was at the Kassam Stadium with 6,758 other fans on the day – but appeared in the dock alone at Oxford Magistrates' Court yesterday.

He was charged with one count of using racial and religiously aggravated words to somebody else and one count of using threatening words or behaviour to cause harassment and alarm.

At Oxford Magistrates' Court he pleaded not guilty to the charges – and will now have to return to the court on April 8 for a trial.

Until then he has been released on unconditional bail – which means he is free to go.

If he is found guilty after his trial he could face the maximum penalty which is six months in prison and an unlimited fine.

United won the match 1-0 in August and 744 fans from Peterborough joined them at the stadium.
