EDDIE Pepperell has explained the reasons for his disqualification at the Qatar Masters today.

The Abingdon golfer was kicked out of the tournament after signing for an incorrect scorecard following his opening round at the Education City GC.

Pepperell, 29, revealed his total of a level-par 71 was correct, but the mistake came from confusion between his and one of his playing partner's scorecards.

The Frilford Heath member, playing alongsideĀ French pair Mike Lorenzo-Vera and Benjamin Hebert, said his partner had him down as taking fiveĀ shots on the 11th hole and four shots on the 16th.

In fact, he had taken six and three shots respectively on thoseĀ holes.

But in making the alterations, he accidentally changed his score on the 17th hole.

Pepperell tweeted: "Quite disappointing as I actually took the time to change the original error, only to make a costlier one myself.

"I asked the referee if this had any bearing on my disqualification but it didnā€™t.

"The rules are the rules and I 100 per centĀ accept that, but I canā€™t help feeling that this particular way of disqualification is a fair distance away from common sense, and thatā€™s also disappointing.

"I enjoyed the course however and hopefully next time Iā€™ll do a better job."Ā Ā Ā

A statement from The European Tour said: "Eddie Pepperell is disqualified due to signing for a lower score on Hole 17."
