ALL you need is love to volunteer at an Oxfordshire town's Pride festival.

This will be the second annual LGBTQ+ event for Abingdon whose residents celebrated Pride for the first time in June last year.

This year the event will take place on Saturday, June 13.

While organisers are still in the process of confirming the programme, they have announced the day will offer a plethora of social activities and community group stalls.

Pride organisers received sterling reviews for the first festival.

Herald Series:

One visitor Rita Maria de Chadarevian commented: "It was a glorious day with a wonderfully varied programme which covered singing, dancing, and poetry-reading; there was also tasty food and drink as well as clothes stalls.

"There was such a friendly and happy energy, which permeated throughout.

"These gatherings are so necessary in our times to confirm and re-Affirm inclusion and our sense of community."

Another Abingdon local Adi Sheward-Himpson thanked organisers and volunteers for their work.

He added: "It was a really nice family-friendly atmosphere and great support from local businesses.

"As a gay dad with an eleven month old, who loved watching everything that was going on, I could not stay as long as I might otherwise have done, but really enjoyed the time while I was there."

However, Abingdon is not the only place in Oxfordshire that boasts celebrations of queer culture.

Banbury will also hold its own Pride event on Saturday, August 15.

Herald Series:

There will be three sessions where eager volunteers can meet the Abingdon Pride team and sign up to help – Saturday, March 28, Saturday April 25, and Saturday, May 16.

They will be held at the King's Head and Bell pub on St Helen Street, Abingdon, from 10am until 12pm.

Alternatively, volunteers may also sign up for opportunities on the Pride's websie http://abingdonpride.com/index.php/volunteer
