SUPPORT has been found for people with learning disabilities left in limbo after a care home announced it was closing.

An update on plans to close Milton Heights, near Didcot, was given to Oxfordshire County Council's performance scrutiny committee on Thursday.

The care home looks after approximately 90 adults with learning disabilities by giving residential care and running a day centre .

In February the charity which runs the home, HFT, said it would be shutting services there by the end of May.

A council council spokesman said the 'alternative services' within Oxfordshire had now been recommended to everyone using the care home.

The spokesman said: "For those in Residential and supported living: we have assessed everyone and recommended alternative service options within the county. Providers are now meeting individuals to confirm these arrangements

"For those receiving the day service: social work staff have met with people and their families, where needed, to explore options. Everyone has been notified about alternative provision available."

They added: "We are continuing to work closely and positively with both our housing and support providers to make sure all of our residents are safe, with a smooth transition. We will also be attending the next Family Staff Association meeting on 29 March to provide further updates."

As well as OCC, nine other local authorities also support people living at Milton Heights.

In February, HFT blamed the closure on nationwide underfunding of social care.
