My father was in the RAMC in India and worked in Pathology.
He was suddenly posted to a place called Deolali where an outbreak of Bubonic Plague had broken out.
On his return I heard him tell my mother that most of the deaths were among those who handled cash and that all those in the family and the servants, were to wash our hands in a solution of disinfectant after handling money.
