A PUB has been providing free essentials to vulnerable villagers, as well as offering a takeaway service for locals.

The George and Dragon in Upton, near Didcot, has been helping the community after some elderly residents were reported to be struggling to get hold of essentials such as bread and toilet roll.

The pub, owned by Hawthorn Leisure, a community pub operator which owns more than 700 pubs across the UK is managed by Ken Shaw, who has been doing everything he can to support his community in this trying time.

Mr Shaw said: “To all of our valued customers who are elderly or vulnerable and can’t get any essentials, give us a ring on 01235 850723 and I will do my best to give you what you need, free of charge. You support us all year through, now it’s time for us to show our appreciation for you. If you know anyone who is struggling and won’t be able to see this message, please give them a ring and let them know.”

Hawthorn Leisure managing director of operations, Mark McGinty said: “We are delighted that our partners are showing such initiative during this unprecedented situation we find ourselves in as a country.
