I WAS listening to the chief constable of the Isles of Scilly, Cornwall and Devon police, Mr Shaun Sawyer, being interviewed on the radio.

He came across as calm and very polite and obviously wants to police by consent.

Contrast that with the comments made by the chief constable of Dorset, Mr James Vaughan, in a recent article in the Echo where he, in what can be considered to be menacing tones, said “the full force of the law will be applied” when dealing with the coronavirus pandemic.

All the people I know are using common sense and taking heed of government advice and mandatory instructions. We don’t need to be issued with threats from the police.

Should our country ever become a police state I dread to think of the consequences of Mr Vaughan or people of the same mind being in charge.
