An Oxford-based taxi company 001 Taxis has launched a contact-free service delivering grocery shopping, medicines, takeaway and other services.

The initiative is said to be the first in the UK to allow booking via App.

Senior manager Aaron Singh said: "We have acted quickly to ensure we can continue to support the Oxford community in all ways possible. Many of our passengers are NHS staff and key workers, and it is clear they will need all of our help in the days and weeks to come."

Mr Singh added: "The health and safety of our passengers remains our priority having issued all drivers with hand sanitisers and guidance on how to keep passengers and themselves safe such as cleansing the vehicle after every journey."

001 Taxis' contact-free delivery service provides an easier option for those needing items without leaving their homes, limiting exposure to other people.

Mr Singh said: "We are aware that major stores are under massive pressure to meet the surge in demand, so we are also appealing to all local shops, chemists, and the restaurant's to be part of the initiative to keep the movement of community services alive."

With grocery delivery, most orders can be left on the doorstep where no person-to-person contact is required.

001 Taxis says the service is simple to use, and it has issued a step-by-step guide via their social media.
