AN INVESTIGATION into the death of nurse Janet Brown is continuing 25 years after she was brutally murdered.

Friday, April 10 will mark the 25th anniversary of the brutal murder and the police will be re-appealing for information to catch her killer.

Over the past five years police have been collecting DNA swabs from more than 700 people to solve the murder, but still there is no match.

On Tuesday, April 11, 1995 mother-of-three Janet Brown was found dead at the bottom of the stairs of her family home near Chinnor.

Oxford Mail:

The 51-year-old Oxford University research nurse was found with her hands cuffed behind her back and packaging had been stuffed in her mouth.

Mrs Brown had been repeatedly struck on the head with what police say was a heavy object like an iron bar.

A post-mortem examination confirmed head injuries were the cause of her death.

Peter Beirne, head of Major Crime Review Team is appealing for information.

Back in 2015 the case was reopened, and police set out to utilise the developments in forensics to create a DNA profile of the killer, however no match has been found over the past five years.

Mr Beirne said: “Between 2015 and now we have visited over 700 people and got DNA mouth swabs from people and there hasn’t been a match.”

Thames Valley police have now seen almost 80 per cent of the people they need to see in relation to the murder and the daughters of Mrs Brown, Roxanne Brown and Zara Brown are urging people to come forward with any suspicions.

Roxanne Brown was due to be at home on the night her mother was murdered but her plans changed that night and she stayed at a friend's. She describes her mother as quiet and gentle with a great sense of humour.

Oxford Mail:

She said: “Sometimes it feels like yesterday, but I just wish we knew what happened.

“It’s really hard to think of her and not separate her from her murder. We just really need a vital clue to be able to pinpoint us to the killer or killers and just be able to put all of that behind us. I would just like to be able to remember my mum for being my mum.”

Her sister, Zara Brown said: “Somebody must know something because there was more than likely one person that broke in that night and did this to her.

“It was very brutal, there would have been a lot of blood. We just want to try and do this one thing for her and make sure they don’t get away with it.”

The police are now appealing to the public and are encouraging anyone who may have any information or suspicions to make contact. Those that come forward do not need to give a witness statement.

There is a £20,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction which consists of £10,000 from Thames Valley Police and £10,000 from Crimestoppers.
