Coronavirus may have robbed us of a chance to see Oxford band Foals playing a hometown festival gig this summer, but there is good news for fans of the band.

The four-piece of Yannis Philippakis, Jack Bevan, Jimmy Smith and Edwin Congreave – who were due to headline Wilderness Festival near Charlbury – have launched a series of 12 short film releases, called the FBC Transmissions.

The videos come off the back of Foals’ two-part Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost album, which netted them a Number 1 album, a Mercury Prize nomination and prizes for Best Group at the BRIT Awards, Best Album at the Q Awards and Best Live Act at the NME Awards.

The FBC Transmissions are presented in pirate radio-style and offer viewers a wealth of new and unseen material. Blending freshly captured footage, opportunities for fans to interact with the band and bonus material from their recent documentary Rip Up The Road, the weekly episodes offer an insight into Foals’ creative process, touring experiences and personalities.

The videos are curated by Toby L, director of Rip Up The Road and co-founder of Transgressive Records, and collaborator, and one-time Trophy Wife member, Kit Monteith. The first ‘Transmission’ follows Foals to Studio La Marquise in Paris, where they’re seen putting the finishing touches to the single Exits alongside co-producer and synth master Vincent Taurelle.

Future highlights include Jimmy introducing his Hidden Treasures, a collection of weird and wonderful music which shaped the direction of the album; the band reflecting on their early days ahead of their headline set at last year’s Truck Festival; and an Q&A with fans. See the videos on Youtube

Toby and Kit say: “The cameras have been rolling more or less non-stop for the past 18 months, from the creation of the band’s recent albums, all the way through to the world tour.

“We wanted to re-inhabit those moments in a time where it feels that introspection is more important than ever, offering new glimpses into what has been such a crucial era for the band and society at large.

“Every week’s missive will provide a concise, intimate insight into the band’s world, alternating week on week. We hope each one has the potential to, in some small way, brighten your day.”

Talking ahead of the band’s show at the O2 Academy Oxford last year, drummer Jack talked about the excitement of headlining that year’s Truck Festival – the subject of one of the forthcoming Transmissions – saying: “Truck was one of my favourite shows ever; definitely in my top 10. Truck was the first festival I ever went to and the first festival the band ever played. I loved it and the crowd was amazing. We felt the love coming back at us. That’s why we wanted to come back to Oxford again.
