Princess Road Nursery had to close for the first time in 34 years, but is now re-opening

Princess Road pre-school was set up by Principal Pauline Wilson, known as Miss Pauline, in September 1986.

However, it had to close its doors in March in order to follow coronairus lockdown guidelines. Pauline, who still runs the nursery to this day, said it was an "awful decision" to have to make.

However, she added:"We have kept our spirits up by putting together a Facebook page for our parents and children and by putting different displays in our windows.

"The community spirit in Old Colwyn has been amazing with a huge number of coordinated schemes set up to help families and many, many acts of individual kindness taking place.

"It is a privilege to be part of such a community. With their help and support we have now re-opened to care for the children of keyworkers and vulnerable children. A big thank you to everyone."

Up until 2017, Miss Pauline ran the nursery alongside Miss Glen, who has since retired.

Over the years, from starting as a nursery class and playgroup, the nursery has extended its space and services to include full daycare, out-of-school care and holiday clubs.

Whilst closed, the nursery had a make-over, putting window displays (see pictures) up for the NHS, as well as Easter and V. E. Day.

Since re-opening on May 11, Pauline says it has had a "steady trickle" of children returning with a group of nine or 10 children attending on different days.

Pauline added: "It has been a fantastic opportunity to welcome them back individually and settle them back in gradually with us after their 7 week break.

"We are now a family business and my sons work here with me. The nursery is my passion and I still wake up excited every morning ready to come to ‘work’.

"I have an incredible and committed staff team who provide the most amazing experiences for the children every day and the most rewarding feeling of pride for me at their professionalism and expertise."
