A COLWYN Bay teen who dreams of becoming a paramedic has been juggling her studies with saving the ears of her future colleagues.
Coleg Llandrillo student Caitlin Harris, 17, has been supporting the NHS by crocheting sore-ear savers to help protect nurses in Glan Clwyd Hospital wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) for long periods of time while treating Coronavirus patients.
Ear savers are functional tools to help protect the ears from chafing when wearing a medical face mask.
Miss Harris said: “I decided to make ear savers for staff from Glan Clwyd Hospital because I love what they do.
“I mean it must take strength and perseverance to keep doing what they’re doing.
“I’m actually hoping to be a part of the NHS and become a paramedic one day and help save lives.”
Miss Harris, who is an Independent Living Skills student at the college’s Rhos-on-Sea campus, started her online business ‘Caitlin’s Crafts’ in December 2019.
She mainly sells hand-crocheted items, but also has a range of hand-crafted keyrings and cards for sale and has been mentored in her social enterprise by Karen Aerts, Coleg Llandrillo’s enterprise officer.
