WIDNES teenager Aidan Jackson will celebrate his 18th birthday on Tuesday but, had it not been for an online game, he may not have been here to celebrate it.

The Cronton College student was playing an online gaming session with his friend Dia in America in January when he suffered a dangerous seizure in his bedroom. She alerted the police who then came to his house.

Mum Caroline said: "Two police cars arrived at our house and said they had received a call from America about an unresponsive male."

His parents rushed upstairs to find Aidan in his bedroom disoriented and confused.

"His health scares started 12 months ago. My husband came home from work to find him unresponsive. He then came around so we brought him to the walk-in centre. They sent him to A and E where a doctor dismissed his symptoms and sent him home."

Aidan became unwell overnight so his parents took him back to the walk-in where they called an ambulance.

He was then diagnosed with acute kidney injury meaning the kidneys were not functioning properly which was linked to the seizure.

Aidan who has been diagnosed with epilepsy, aspergers and ADHD took the decision amidst the coronavirus to avoid all contact with people and stay indoors.

The kind hearted lad has raised thousands for charity in memory of his late friend Olivia Walker who died in 2014 after battling health problems.

"He filled Select Stadium with teddies in honour of her and raised over £8000 for the Olivia Alice Foundation. He also donated more than half the stuffed animals to Bearly Loved which gives bears to disadvantaged children."

Runcorn and Widnes World:

This is just one of the many fundraising challenges he has undertaken to raise much needed funds.

He has been fundraising for community defibrillators – he now has a total of 12 community defibrillators across Halton with a 13th ready for installation as soon as things return to normal.

In total over the past five years Aidan has raised more than £50,000 for charities and good causes.

"If he hears about someone needing help he will help out."

Stuck in the house for his birthday his mum is hoping for people to send him some birthday cards as a pick me up as he may not be able to have a party.

Anyone wishing to send him a surprise birthday card can do so via this address: Aidan Jackson, 142 Birchfield Road, Widnes, Wa8 9ed or 68 Francis Close, Widnes, WA8 8SU
