A MEMORIAL book has been set up as tributes continue to pour in for ‘gentleman’ councillor Bill Chapman.

Bill, who died at Ysbyty Gwynedd on Thursday, May 21 was suffering from lung cancer when he contracted Coronavirus.

Among the tributes paid to Cllr Chapman - who served as a Conwy town councillor for the Marl ward as well as a former mayor, chair of Aberconwy Labour Party and a Justice of the Peace - Conwy Town Council flew the Mayor’s Pennant at half mast at the Harbour Master’s house on Sunday, May 31.

As social distancing restrictions mean that a memorial service will not be able to take place, daughter Elinor Chapman has asked friends and colleagues to share stories of her father via remembr.com

Elinor said: “We have been overwhelmed with the kindness shown over the past week. We have received cards, bouquets, emails as well as donations in Dad’s name.

“It gives us comfort that he was such a well respected man and made a difference to so many people’s lives.

“As we are currently unable to hold a memorial service to celebrate Dad’s life we have set up an online memorial book.

“We are hoping people would find the time to share stories about Dad and add any photos they happen to have.”

Condolences continue to flood in to the page, with memories focusing on Cllr Chapman’s interest in the Esperanto language, as a member of the Deganwy All Saints Church church congregation and from his time in Plouézec, Brittany, as well as a brother, father and grandfather.

The family are also inviting well wishers to donate to two chosen charities.

A “passionate” trustee of the Citizens Advice Bureau Conwy, donations can be made via the ‘Bill Chapman’ page localgiving.org.

Donations can also be made to North Wales NHS charity Awyr Las via justgiving.com.
