STAFF at food store Cook in Summertown have been donating free meals to dementia care club clients.

Daybreak is a local Oxford charity which is committed to providing a friendly, welcoming and stimulating environment for people living with dementia.

In March, due to the coronavirus crisis, Daybreak had to make the difficult decision to close their dementia day clubs for the foreseeable future.

The people who attend are amongst the most vulnerable, with many aged over 80 with underlying health conditions.

During lockdown, Daybreak was determined to continue with its support to its club members and their families. The dedicated and experienced staff have been working hard to maintain contact with the families they support, via regular telephone calls.

Cook Oxford franchisee owner Kristie Davies said: “Here at Cook, we have been aware of the great work that the Daybreak charity provide and wanted to do something to help.

“ We wanted to make life a little easier and to help brighten some days. As we sell delicious ready-made meals it made sense that we could provide some free meals for the dementia club attendees and their companions.

“Our meals are made using the same techniques and ingredients that a good cook would use at home so they all look and taste homemade. Good food is vitally important to wellbeing and when you can’t go out is often the highlight of the day.”

Cook Oxford is based in Banbury Road. The company launched in 1997.
