TODAY is the last day that residents can comment on plans to close their post office.

The company is planning to close its Botley branch and create a post office counter in the nearby Co-op in the West Way development.

North Hinksey Parish Council has said it would be 'a shame' and the plan is a 'sign of the times'.

The Botley branch on Elms Parade was closed on March 25 due to 'staffing issues' because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Before its temporary closure, the Botley branch was open between 9am and 5.30pm, with an earlier 12.30pm closure on Saturdays.

Under the new plan, the Co-op post office counter would be open between 8am and 8pm on Monday through Saturday.

Oxford Mail:

Services at the Co-op would include bill payment, cash withdrawals and foreign currency, postage, home shopping collections and returns.

However, on-demand travel insurance, as well as Passport Check and Send would no longer be available.

According to the consultation document, the nearest branch offering this would be St Giles post office on Woodstock Road.

The news of the closure plan comes after it was announced last month that Walton Street Post Office has shut for good.

Labour city councillor Susanna Pressel said people were ‘horrified’ by that decision.

Regarding the proposed Botley move, the Post Office said it was looking for feedback about ‘accessibility, local community issues and anything that we can do to make life easier for customers’.
