SCHOOL children from Culham Parochial School celebrated 150 years of the institution teaching the community at a birthday bash in July 2000.

The celebrations - and the cake - marked the impressive milestone for the Oxfordshire primary school.

Pictured together with the pupils is the school's then-acting headmistress Mrs Valerie Hoskins.

The cake was made by Mrs Carol Berkley.

Sadly, the milestone was also nearly the end of the story for the historic school: in November last year, Oxfordshire County Council officially signed off the closure of the tiny primary because of its persistently low pupil numbers.

This was despite the fact school pupil numbers are set to rise across the county overall.

We’re really excited to launch ‘We Grew Up in Oxford‘, a new online community for everyone who loves our great city. In our new Facebook group, we’ll be delving into the archives - both recent and older - to bring you memories of what it was like growing up and living here through the years.

We hope you’ll join us and get involved in the project, and remember to let us know what memories from your glory days you want to see in the group. We Grew Up in Oxford, so now it’s time to celebrate that. See you there!
