A FAMILY wants to build a huge wooden playset in their back garden but need the council's permission first.

The structure, known as a 'sky fort', would sit within the grounds of their Grade II listed farmhouse on Cassington Road, Yarnton.

The play equipment would be made of a timber frame and boards and the timber would be cedar wood.

It would have a central tower structure of 3.8m in height with swings and slides.

Planning permission is required because it would result in a building/structure 'which is incidental to the enjoyment' of a listed building.

Cherwell council officers say the application would be supported because the playset would be in the south east corner of the garden and would be shielded from the house behind an existing shed and behind large mature trees in the garden.

It would also be a temporary structure and could therefore be removed easily at a later date without causing harm to the listed building.

The pre-application report states: "The garden at the property is large and so a structure of this kind would not appear cramped within the setting.

"The materials would be standard for a structure of this kind with timber frame and central pillar with plastic accessories and would therefore be appropriate within a residential site."

The application reference is 20/01998/F.
