OXFORD has recorded another six coronavirus cases in 24 hours.

It takes the city's total to 1,093 throughout the pandemic and was part of a further 16 positive tests in Oxfordshire.

The rolling weekly infection rate for Oxford has dipped below 25 cases per 100,000 people for the first time since Friday.

This is the level judged to put the city on an 'amber alert'.

Measured for the seven days up to September 12, Oxford is now at 24.9 based on 38 new cases.

The highest rate in England is currently Bolton on 196.1.

The Public Health England figures, measured as of 9am today, also show across the UK 3,105 cases were recorded.

There were 28 new deaths of people who died within 28 days of positive test.

It takes the official coronavirus death toll to 41,664.

A further 14 coronavirus deaths in England’s hospitals were also reported by NHS England today, with three in the South East.

None were at Oxfordshire's hospitals, with Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust not having registered any covid deaths since July 4.

In the South East there are currently 73 people in hospital with Covid-19 and three patients in serious enough condition to need to be on ventilation.

There have been 29.3 million cases of coronavirus confirmed globally, with more than 6.5 million of these in the US.

The UK, which continues to have the 14th highest total in the world, has 374,228 confirmed positive tests.
