A DEPRAVED paedophile who repeatedly raped and sexually abused an eight-year-old girl has been jailed.

During Joshua Dodd's campaign of sexual abuse in South Oxfordshire he also attacked a second child victim, groping her while performing a sex act.

The first child victim, who was raped as many as 13 times, said she was 'scared' of her abuser and she 'just went along with it.'

A sentencing judge said this morning that the 28-year-old of no fixed abode had a 'fascination with pre-pubescent girls.'

Dodd had denied 10 counts alleging rape and sexual assault and a trial was set to take place.

However he went on to change his plea and admitted to four counts - two of rape, one of assault by penetration and one of sexual assault.

The offences all involved two child victims - who cannot be named for legal reasons - in South Oxfordshire about a decade ago.

Outlining the case at his sentencing at Oxford Crown Court today prosecutor Alan Gardner said Dodd had first begun kissing his eight-year-old victim before going on to touch her sexually.

As her ordeal continued the child described being made to perform a sex act on her abuser, before he went on to rape her repeatedly.

Prosecutors said that the girl could not say exactly how many times she had been abused in this way but that it happened 'at least 13 times.'

The victim said of her ordeal: "I was scared. I just went along with it.

"I didn't really know what was happening."

Dodd also sexually assaulted another young child by touching her while he performed a sex act.

That child was aged under 13.

It was also revealed that Dodd has a number of previous convictions to his name, and in 2018 he was jailed for attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity, breaching a sexual prevention order and making indecent photographs of a child.

At that hearing he was jailed for more than four years.

In mitigation at today's sentencing hearing Nerida Harford-Bell, defending, said that her client, by his guilty pleas, showed 'real remorse.'

She added that he had been diagnosed as suffering from post traumatic stress disorder from childhood trauma.

She also said that the offences were carried out when Dodd was a teenager.

Sentencing, Judge Ian Pringle QC called the sexual abuse 'repeated' and determined that Dodd was a 'dangerous offender.'

He said: "You have a fascination with pre-pubescent girls and having sex with them in whatever possible way you can."

Dodd was jailed for a total of 12 years and made subject to an extended sentence of four years post-release licence.

He will also sign the sex offenders register for life and be subject to a sexual harm prevention order.
