A MAN died after getting out of his car following a crash on a rural road, a court has heard.

Richard Potts, from Wallingford, was driving his Fiat Panda on the A4074 in the evening of March 2 when a Fiat Punto pulled out from Deadmans Lane – causing the initial crash.

Mr Potts, 41, is reported to have then got out of his car but when he did another vehicle crashed into the stationary Punto – in turn hitting Mr Potts.

At his pre-inquest review at Oxford Coroner's Court yesterday, the head coroner for the county Darren Salter said Mr Potts died of multiple ‘traumatic’ injuries at the scene near Goring Heath in South Oxfordshire.

At the time police closed off the road and made an appeal, urging any witnesses to come forward.

Now it has been revealed that there is enough evidence to present the case to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and the team are currently deciding whether to press charges.

Mr Salter said the inquest – which aims to conclude how a person died – could now be heard in one of two ways.

If charges are pressed then the inquest will be heard at criminal court during the proceedings.

If the case is dropped by the police it will be heard at Oxford Coroner's Court.

If it is heard at coroner's court another pre-inquest review will be scheduled ahead of the full inquest.
