AN Oxfordshire leisure centre is partially closed for the second day in a row after a 'power failure'.

The White Horse Leisure and Tennis Centre in Abingdon remains partially closed for the second day running.

Last night members were notified via the centre's Facebook page that for 'circumstances outside of our control the White Horse Leisure & Tennis Centre has had to close for this evening'.

While the Facebook post did not make it clear why the centre had to close, a text sent to members revealed that there had been a 'mains power failure'.

This morning around 8am the centre posted on its Facebook page that it was now 'reopen', however, with 'limited services'.

That post, however, had now been deleted and it is unclear whether the centre has in fact reopened at all.

A spokesperson for the White Horse Leisure Centre said:

"The centre lost mains power at approximately 3.45pm yesterday. The building was evacuated as it became apparent the issue wouldn’t be resolved immediately.

"Contractors are on site, have identified a fault with the mains incoming electricity supply and are working to resolve the issue.

"Currently the gym is open, we’re running some but not all group fitness classes and tennis has been moved from indoor courts to the outdoor courts, the pool does, however, remain closed.

"We’re anticipating normal service will resume shortly and will be updating our website and social media channels regularly."

A spokesperson for South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse District Councils said:

"Due to a problem with the power supply, most facilities at the White Horse Leisure and Tennis Centre are currently closed.

"The only area which is open as normal is the gym.

"Electricians are on site working as quickly as possible to fix the problem."
